I grew up in Carmel, CA, and graduated from Carmel High School. I attended Stanford University and studied/worked abroad in what was then West Berlin, Germany, as part of Stanford’s Overseas Program during my junior year. After graduation, I pursued high-level bicycle road racing for several years on a full-time basis. When I ultimately concluded I was not destined to be the next Greg LeMond, I turned my attention to my original goal of law school.
While at Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, I explored various areas of civil practice through private firm internships. However, it was an unpaid (but hugely valuable) summer job at the Santa Clara County Public Defender’s Office working on a murder case with a now-legendary defense attorney that set me on the path I am passionate about and continue on today as a criminal defense lawyer. I worked as a Deputy Public Defender in the Santa Clara office for five years after law school, then started my own practice with a focus on juvenile delinquency defense.
I am happily married with two young daughters and I still race my bike!
